Anonymous asked: I recently started growing seeds in one inch cells. Things are going pretty well, but some cells are now filled with sprouted seedlings. When should they be separated and transplanted to larger pots? I'm growing things like tomatoes, cucumbers, basil, and broccoli. Thanks!
A good rule of thumb is to keep them as is until their second set of true leaves grow in (which I guess would be leaf number five and six) or when the roots start growing out the bottom of your cells.
I overcrowded mine this year and ended up having repot a littler earlier, which is fine as long as you are very gentle with the roots when you separate the plants. If you don’t want to mess around with separating the roots, you can always just leave them in there to duke it out. Usually the strongest one will survive.
